32 countries have so far confirmed their participation in the 57th Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan. A number of countries have yet to confirm their participation and of course there is rumours about certain countries returning!

The following countries have confirmed:

  • Albania
  • Austria
  • Belarus
  • Belgium
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Bulgaria
  • Cyprus
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • Georgia
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Ireland
  • Israel
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Malta
  • Moldova
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Romania
  • Serbia
  • Slovenia
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Turkey
  • Ukraine
Of the countries automatically in the final only Azerbaijan, Germany, Spain and United Kingdom have confirmed their entry.
Rumours are that the Czech Republic could be returning to the contest having not returned since 2009. While there is also talk that Morocco could enter the contest again. Morocco only entered in 1980 when they came 18th only beating the Belgian entry of that year.
Rumours also abound that Armenia, Portugal and Slovakia could be withdrawing from the contest.

Of course its all speculation at the moment but we should have confirmation in the New Year of final line up

Niamh and Josh sing Fairytale

Written by candlemansa. Posted in Collaborations

As a Eurovision fan one thing I love is when our Euro stars collaborate.  We get the trifecta with the below clip as Ireland and England combine forces on what can only be described as the Norwegian Eurovision anthem ‘Fairytale’.  Niamh Kavanagh and Josh Dubovie pull their collective impressive vocals together to belt out the beloved tune.  The duet can also be found on Josh’s new album release ‘Carpe Diem’ which is a collection of covered tracks that include, ‘Chasing Cars’, ‘Save the last dance for me’, ‘Black and Gold’ and ‘Cry me a river’.

Scandipop Music To Air On Dance Nation TV

Written by Amnesia. Posted in Featured, Melodifestivalen, Schlager

The utturley fabulous world of Scandinavian music is making it’s way on to Dance Nation TV!
Dance Nation will be trialling “Scandipop’s” list of Scandinavian hits for one hour, every week for four weeks.
If this proves to be popular, they will continue to show it every week.
This is a huge coop for Scandinavian music lovers in the UK and Ireland.
I am personally very excited at the prospect that this will be shown every week from now on. I can’t get enough of the Scandinavian music scene and already being a huge fan of Dance Nation TV, I am totally obsessed already!
The show is set to feature lots of Scandinavia’s biggest stars including September, Eric Saade, Agnes, Infernal, Swedish House Mafia, Eric Pridz, Star Pilots, Ola, Elin Lanto and Danny & Freja!!
Also I will be hoping that they will feature some other artists not released commercially here but still well known in Eurovision/Schlager circles such as Velvet, Alcazar and Jenny Silver to name a few but I have to admit Velvet being aired is an absolute must for me!
This one hour “Scandipop” extravaganza , which is starting on Friday 7th October on Sky, will also be repeated on two other occasions throughout the same week for anyone who may miss it.

The times are:

Every Friday morning at 10AM

RTE’s “A Little Bit Eurovision” – Part 4

Written by Mr. Nobody. Posted in Events

RTE broadcast episode four of the highly enjoyable “A Little Bit Eurovision” tomorow night, this time focusing on 1993′s Eurovision winner Niamh Kavanagh. Niamh gave Ireland a home victory in Millstreet with “In Your Eyes”; the 2nd of Ireland’s three-in-a-row wins.

Niamh’s win was a nail-biting duel against the UK’s Sonia during most of the voting but Ireland eventually claimed victory with 187 points; a record score at the time. “In Your Eyes” became the biggest selling single in Ireland in 1993 and Niamh travelled to Nashville to record an album but subsequent singles failed to make an impact.

“A Little Bit Eurovision” – Part 3

Written by Mr. Nobody. Posted in Events

Linda Martin performing "Why Me"

RTE broadcast part three of “A Little Bit Eurovision” tomorrow night, this time profiling Linda Martin, winner of the 1992 contest. Linda’s Eurovision win was the fourth for Ireland and the first of our record three-in-a-row successes. Having entered the Irish National Song Contest an incredible nine times, (four as a soloist, four with the band Chips and once with Linda Martin & Friends), Linda has been the most frequent entrant in the Irish National Final.

Linda of course also represented Ireland in 1984 with “Terminal Three” placing 2nd; just 8 points behind Herreys. She is one of only four Eurovision participants to place 1st and 2nd in the contest. She has released 8 singles as a solo artist in Ireland and 16 singles with Chips, including such “gems” as ”I’m A Song, Sing Me”, “Hi-Lowie” and “Sock It To Em, Sister Nell”.
Linda Martin remains a Eurovision fan favourite and performed at Congratulations, the 50th Anniversary contest in 2005. She has been a judge on “You’re A Star” and Eurosong 2009, presenter of RTE’s “The Lyrics Board” and of course has toured Ireland with “Menopause the Musical” where she famously fell out with Twink but the less said about that the better.
“A Little Bit Eurovision” is broadacst this Tuesday at 8:30pm on RTE1.
