My Top 100 Eurovision Entries Ever (100-81)

Written by Amnesia. Posted in Countdown

After much thought and soul searching (…oh who am I kidding?…it’s just for fun and to enjoy them all over again), I decided to put together my all time Top 100 Eurovision entries. From schlager to ballads, from rock to opera, this countdown has it all!!  This special euro list takes no prisoners and has no shame! Enjoy!!

100??

Country: Norway
Song: “Nocturne”
Artist: Secret Garden
Year: 1995
Position: Winner
Loved the haunting sound to this and even though Norway took home the trophy in 1995, I also liked the Irish link in there! It just cemented Ireland’s run
in the 90’s Eurovision era.  A shame as they couldn’t run a tap now!!

99

Country: United Kingdom
Song: “Come Back”
Artist: Jessica Garlick
Year: 2002
Position: Joint 3rd
Didn’t rate this a whole lot at the time…don’t know why but I grew to appreciate it once Eurovision was over. Great voice….nice song…awful outfit…ur not Rednex love!

98

Country: Spain
Song: “Vuelve Conmigo”
Artist: Anabel Conde
Year: 1995
Position: 2nd

Even though I’m convinced she worked at our local cake store at one stage, I do like the song, think she needs to be on something personally but hey I’m not a doctor!

Loving her big screeching mid song…her pained expressions suggest she needs a toilet though!

97

Country: Lithuania
Song: “Happy You”
Artist: Aivaras
Year: 2002
Position: 23rd

Thought this was like something out of a children’s film but I liked it…weird child-like sound but enjoyable none the less even with the backing singers in their ragged knitted rainbow jumpers!! Did they not have mirrors in Lithuania??

96

Country: Iceland
Song: “Minn Hinsti Dans”
Artist: Paul Oscar
Year: 1997
Position: 20th

Before its time, camp, precise, direct, cool…prefer the women to him though!

95

Country: Belgium
Song: “Sanomi”
Artist: Urban Trad
Year: 2003
Position: 2nd

Two Belgian sister-a-likes…not! Singing a weird language is always…well weird, although I do love the song itself. Maybe we should send the Seoiges for Ireland this year!

94

Country: Turkey
Song: “Shake It Up Sekerim”
Artist: Kenan Dogulu
Year: 2007
Position: 4th in Final

Not one of Turkey’s best ever songs but still very good, fast, catchy with a cute singer thrown in!

93

Country: Russia
Song: “Never Let You Go”
Artist: Dima Bilan
Year: 2006
Position: 3rd in Final

Great song from 2006, really different and great presentation…pity he turned into an ego manic after this!

92

Country: United Kingdom
Song: “My Time”
Artist: Jade Ewen
Year: 2009
Position: 5th in Final

Beautiful voice, song is a bit predictable, little slap off the violinist but she got through it! Pure pro!

91

Country: Spain
Song: “I Love You Mi Vida”
Artist: D’Nash
Year: 2007
Position: 20th in Final

Cheesy Boyband. Didn’t rate this until the Eurovision performance itself, very uptempo, very catchy, good singers, not the best, but great song!

90

Country: Germany
Song: “I Can’t Live Without Music”
Artist: Corinna May
Year: 2002
Position: 21st

Where do I start? Camp, trashy, over-smiley and that’s just Corinna. This is horrific, awful and I LOVE it!

89

Country: Norway
Song: “High”
Artist: Knut Anders Sørum
Year: 2004
Position: 24th in Final

Great song, underappreciated by the voters in my book, dodgy suit admittedly but I forgive him! (And imagining what it would be like on my floor…..the suit that is!)

88

Country: Germany
Song: “Regier’n Die Welt”
Artist: Roger Cicero
Year: 2007
Position: 19th in Final

Unusual for me to like this type of song but I loved the song, quite cool nowadays & the singer has a very sexy way with the camera! Thank You Germany!

87

Country: Spain
Song: “Para llenarme de ti”
Artist: Ramon
Year: 2004
Position: 10th in Final

Very good effort for Spain, very nice song, great singer, good looker, although the quaint kick at the end kind of puts me off this a bit! It looks like he just got carried away (in a bad way) & it was never a part of the production! However, it still makes my no 87!

86

Country: Cyprus
Song: “Gimme”
Artist: One
Year: 2002
Position: 6th

Love a good boy/man band…good song, very catchy but lead singer Constantinos should have cut the hair! However, loved the vibe of this, great party song, backing singers are cute (apart from the really long haired guy)!

85

Country: Germany
Song: “Let’s Get Happy”
Artist: Lou
Year: 2003
Position: 11th

So much wrong with this yet I love it all! Lou makes you wanna get up and dance even if you are afraid of her! Backing dancers need to be showered and sent back to their local mental home after the show but apart from that, this is one of my biggest guilty pleasures!

84

Country: Sweden
Song: “La Voix”
Artist: Malena Ernman
Year: 2009
Position: 21st

I am personally not a big fan of Malena but her song was great, her voice was a little shaky on the night but the overall performance was very good, this should have done better and I want one of those masks!!! Also, a great entry from the wonderful Fredrik Kempe!

83

Country: United Kingdom
Song: “Where Are You Now”
Artist: Imannii
Year: 1997
Position: 2nd

This was a great entry for the UK! Her look, the song, the slick backing singers (I want the tall guy’s number) and it was all the delivered very well!

82

Country: Sweden
Song: “Dag Efter Dag”
Artist: Chips
Year: 1982
Position: 8th

My 2nd Swedish entry had to be in my top 100. Slim Kikki with her runaway wispy hair and the Dolly Parton reject clothes and a fabulous song…whats not to like?

81

Country: Romania
Song: “Tornero”
Artist: Mihai Traistariu
Year: 2006
Position: 4th in Final

Great track, good staging, which wasn’t hard though as I think the 2006 stage helped anyone who was on it! Bit too overdone on the make up but I’m sure he has learned by now…..maybe not!!

So….there you have songs 100 down to 81!

What do you think so far?

Which ones would you have further up in your list or not in your list at all maybe?

Amnesia

I am one of many Eurovision nuts out there...although I think I really am obsessed a bit too much,..having discovered it from an early age in the 80's right up to the modern day madness that is Eurovision! ..think I may have to support my adopted country Sweden if they send the right song & person this year!

Annabel Conde would be my number one – the greatest injustice in eurovision history she should have won.

Anabel Conde is one of my all time favourites. It’s still on my IPOD, not sure if I can say the same for the other songs that year. Bar Israel and Amen. Loved it.

Cant agree with Anabel Conde or Imannii being so in the list. Two worthy second places and perhaps should’ve won. Still listen to the two of them regularly…….
