Eurosong Line Up Announced

The five act will compete in Eurosong 2011

From RTE.ie

Late last year RTÉ Television announced that it was taking a different approach to selecting this year’s Eurovision entry.

RTÉ nominated five mentors with proven experience in the Irish music industry and asked them to select an artist and a song each, that they believe has the potential to be a Eurovision winner.

Ronan Hardiman is mentoring Don Mescall who is performing ‘Talking With Jennifer’ (written by Ronan Hardiman and Don Mescall).

Caroline Downey Desmond is the mentor for Jedward, who will sing ‘Lipstick’ (written by Dan Priddy, Lars Jensen and Martin Larson).

The mystery act will be mentored by Willie Kavanagh. They will sing a song called ‘Shine On’ (written by Patrick Mahoney).

Liam Lawton is the mentor for The Vard Sisters, who will compete with a song called ‘Send Me An Angel’ (written by Liam Lawton).

Nikki Kavanagh’s mentor is David Hayes and her song is ‘Falling’ (written by Christina Schilling and Camilla).

Viewers will get a sneak preview of the five acts in ‘Eurosong 2011 – The Players’, a special behind-the-scenes documentary which will be broadcast on Saturday 5 February on RTÉ One.

In this documentary Marty Whelan follows the five mentors through the six weeks they have been allotted by RTÉ to find a winning act for the Eurovision Song Contest.

The winning act will be selected on ‘Eurosong 2011′ on ‘The Late Late Show’ on Friday 11 February.

As was the case last year, Ireland’s Eurovision entry will be selected by a combination of public and regional jury vote.

This is how the line-up of this year’s Eurosong is looking like :

  1. Don Mescall - Talking with Jennifer (Ronan Hardiman & Don Mescall )
  2. Jedward - Lipstick (Dan Priddy, Lars Jensen and Martin Larson)
  3. Mystery Act - Shine On (Patrick Mahoney)
  4. The Vard Sisters - Send me an angel (Liam Lawton)
  5. Nikki Kavanagh - Falling (Christina Schilling, Camilla Gottschalck, Jonas Gladnikoff and Hanif Sabzevari)

Don’t forget to vote for your favourite song in Eurosong 2011

Looks like there is a clear leader at the moment, though it is hard to choose until we hear the songs. I just hope to God its not Jedward!

Although I've yet to hear the entrants and their songs; and I have nothing against the Jedward duo – they are high entertainment for children especially (I have 5 at home who love them). However on the more serious note of being represented Globally by them -I have serious reservations. My hopes are pinned on the mystery group. I will say this though, advertising for the foresaid boys is everywhere, giving an undue advantage. If its to be a fair contest then let us have even coverage of all the acts -or none at all like coverage prior to a court case/jury, else it can prejudice the results. Plus, what about a voting age for the general public? Bear in mind the Jedward boys will gain a huge advantage from the youngest of Irish folk but is that a true representation of the country's demographic

I hear what you are saying, and while I too am waiting for the song before I pass judgment against them or not :) The public will vote in Jedward, it's the juries that will make the swing in this matter, if the second public place song does well with the juries then they can win, as lets face it Juries hate Jedward

I so hope you're right. I've heard people are even travelling over to here just to vote Jedward. That isn't right! Not to mention any youngster with a mobile will probably vote for them too! All we can do is hope sanity prevails and the best song/group go forward.

If Jedward represent Ireland we had best prepare to feel the same embaressment that we felt with Dustin!! We are already a laughing stock because of our country's leader. The Brian Cowen Jokes have entertained us all, as have Jedward but for real talent, Vote the unnamed Quartet for eurovision!!
