Sweet Mother of God….NO!

Written by The Voice. Posted in National Finals

Hello Peeps, well first of all I would like to say how happy I am to be back blogging for what is my first post for Eurovision 2011. If only my news was good….

Okay so I might be going out on a limb here, but I was horrified to learn the news that the Grimes twins better known as Jedward have confirmed their plans to represent Ireland at next year’s Eurovision. Now as you are aware, the selection process has changed somewhat this year and RTE have hired the talents of 5 professionals to each pick a song and singer who will go head to head with each other in a public vote with the winner representing Ireland in Dusseldorf.

I am a bit oldschool when it comes to Eurovision and I was hoping that the selection change would see us improve our position on the leaderboard in Dusseldorf, so the thoughts of the Grime twins being there as the best of Ireland’s musical talent fills me with dread. I have nothing against Jedward, but as an aging fan of Eurovision (27) I fear that Ireland may be left in the cold again next year…

Let’s hope that the Irish people vote with their musical tastes and not their collective funny bone (which no-one finds that funny, Dustin anyone?!?)

The Voice

Has been a Eurofanatic since 1992 with a vague recollection of Linda Martin's win in Malmo. He has been hooked on it since and hopes that Niamh Kavanagh can reclaim Ireland's glory but would be happy with any winner as long as they don't beat Ireland's number of 7 wins.
