Hit of The Day: Hero

Written by spiller. Posted in Eurovision Hit of the Day

For today’s Hit of the Day, we are going back to 2008 when the Swedish winner of Eurovision in 1999, Charlotte Perelli, entered the contest  for the second time, this time with Hero. It’s an amazing song and one I love to dance too!! of course it was Candelmansa’s post which reminded me of this song!

And it's also an object lesson for fans who devoured the song in audio in the months running up to the 2008 contest. Great song, but the performance visuals were shocking – that lighting effect that made her look monochrome simply scared the home audiences; and the audio could not compensate the Scooby Doo effect.

Agreed Ewan, this song definitely peaked too soon. I had it on constant repeat as soon as she performed it at Melodifestivalen.

Unfortunately for Charlotte, I think home audiences were turned off by her look. She did not look great during the contest and the fringeless hair style did her no favours. She's a great looking girl but she needs to lay off the botox. StylingOchConsulting may have an opinion on this…..

But totally agree with you, I dance to this track all the frickin time. Her follow up English Album is also quite good – with Bullet, Addicted, Not Alone and Show Me a Mountain being great tracks.

I do agree with the two of ye. One stage it was wtf? But on the CD (or in Ruby's) it was amazing! I just had to post it though! I was surprised it hadn't been.

Lesson to be learned for all for this year! Strong heavily produced songs are hard to reproduce live on stage – that's why every year always produces a shocker or 2 in the final shakeout!

Charlotte's face circa 2008 is a warning to us all not to perform incessantly in front of the StormWindMachine. With great StormWind comes great responsibility. The Stormwind must be used sparingly.

Charlotte's 2008 styling och consulting left a lot to be desired. Wrong hairdo, wrong dress, wrong lighting and dear god what were the fat middle aged men doing on stage? Put 1/2 stone on Charlotte, give her a proper hairdo, turn down the botox/Stormwind Machine and have her grinding against five hot topless Swedish hunks and Ani Lorak's giant Mirrorbox and you might have had a winning performance.

I should sue her for the trauma her face caused me…
