The year was…1974
Sep 1st
The year was 1974, the place Brighton, England, the event, the 19th Eurovision song contest.
It would be five years before my miraculous birth so I wasn’t even a twinkle in my parent’s eyes but they must have had some insight because they bought several of the Eurovision singles on record for that year and when I was but a wee boy of eight I discovered them. I always credit the 1993 Eurovision as been the year that started my love affair yet in truth it was 1974 and specifically records containing three of that years entrants; Tina Reynolds, Olivia Newton More >

Turkey Not Automatically Qualified for Final
Aug 29th
Many of us thought with the one of the Big Four Countries winning the contest last year, the 2nd placed country would be automatically in the final. This will not be the case as reported by ESC Today after the recent reference group meeting in Belgrade. This means Turkey loses out on that potential as they came 2nd in Oslo.
Only Germany, France, Spain and the United Kingdom will be automatically in the final. That means the final next year will only have 24 countries. 10 from each semi. I wonder will this make anyone notice

The year was…1993
Aug 3rd
In a brand new section to ESC Ireland we get to discuss individual Eurovision years. Please if leaving responses only respond to matters pertaining to the given year. From singers to costumes, interval acts to backing singers, whatever you wish to talk about a selected year this is the place to do it. For these reasons it separates itself from the already in place ‘History’ category.
I’ve chosen 1993 because it was the first year I watched and loved the Eurovision and to date it remains for me one of the most emotional years.

Fabrizio Faniello
Jul 22nd
In 2006 Malta took a break from its ballad run to enter Maltese heartthrob Fabrizio Faniello into the Eurovision with dance hit, ‘I do’.
This was not Fabrizio first time entering the Eurovision having previously entered the competition in 2001 with ‘Another summer night’.
Fabrizio career was often conflicting when he found himself torn between his two passions, football and singing. Eventually after playing football for a year in the Italian city of Turin a 16 year old Faniello decided to pursue music entering many prestigious European festivals.
In 1998 he won the Best Male Artist award at the Maltese Music Awards and More >
